It is the world's largest confectionery company with a market share of 21 percent. The company operates in 160 countries and its products are sold in over 165 countries. It is best known for its chocolate, biscuits, candy, and gum. Mondelez's brands include Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, Lu, Excelsior Chocolates, Nabisco, Oreo, Ritz, and Trident. The company has eight of the world's top 50 food brands and four of the world's top 20 biscuit brands. It is a member of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index and NASDAQ-100 Index. Mondelez International was created on October 1, 2012, as a spin-off from Kraft Foods Inc. In October 2012, Kraft Foods announced it would split into two publicly traded companies—a grocery company (Kraft Foods Group) and a snack food company (Mondelez International). The new Mondelez International was formed on October 1, 2012, and includes the global snacks and candy businesses of the old Kraft Foods Inc. The Mondelez name was suggested by Kraft Foods employees and is a combination of the words "monde," meaning "world," and "delez," meaning "delicious."
